About Precipitec
Specializing in borehole drilling in the Cape Town southern suburbs, Precipitec was founded in 1994 by Francois Viljoen as an irrigation company but soon found that a large number of our customers were requesting wellpoints and boreholes.
In 1995 we started drilling our own wellpoints and sub-contracted our borehole drilling. The demand for boreholes became so great that in 1996 we invested a million Rand in our own borehole drilling equipment.
More recently we have had an additional rig custom built , investing a further 1.5 million Rand in capital equipment
We now have two drilling rigs that we use for drilling boreholes up to 250 meters deep.
Our well-points are drilled using a hand wash-bore technique, the wells being sleeved and gravel packed. This a technique that although more time consuming and costly, we perfected over years of trial and error enabling us to successfully find water in areas that other contractors routinely fail due to high clay content in the hydro geology.
Drilling in Cape Town requires intimate local knowledge due to the soft sand and clay formations encountered. We have specialized in particularly mud rotary drilling to ensure minimal impact to both the environment as well as preventing damage to surrounding buildings. Though we often drill with air (percussion) it is usually last resort due to the significant increased cost to our customers.
A seasonal note of caution ; air drilling is often used by inexperienced drillers or drillers with limited or no knowledge of mud rotary drilling coming from other parts of the country where rock drilling is prevalent, to cash in on the seasonal drilling boom, with disastrous results. We strongly recommend that prospective customers do due diligence on the company they aim to contract and make sure they have experience in drilling in local conditions and have proper liability insurance in place.
We pride ourselves on our track record of successful "environment negative impact free" boreholes that give many years of service. To date we've completed in excess of 2500 boreholes and wellpoints in the Western Cape, focusing primarily on greater Cape Town and the Southern Suburbs in particular.
Mud rotary drilling requires a significant amount of water and we use environmentally sustainable sources with a minimal loss of water to the environment and zero pollution of the groundwater.
All our drilling additive are natural and biodegradable and have a half life of less than 14 days once used, decomposing with zero pollution.
You will find our site staff friendly and hard working and we especially pride ourselves on how neat we leave the sites once work is completed.
A significant portion of our work entails the design and installation of irrigation system linked to groundwater supplies. These installations are done under the very able leadership of Sakhi Malonde (17 years of service) and his team has made a name for themselves in irrigation installation excellence. Our preferred irrigation suppliers are Hunter Industries and Rainbird.
Precipitec is fully underwritten with the requisite public liability insurance and we are a member of the Borehole Water Association of South Africa..
